The Löfstedt review of Health and Safety Legislation in a “nutshell”:  

• Health and Safety Guidance for Small Business is to be made much simpler 
• Business will get simple and consistent guidance from the HSE
• Low risk business will no longer be visited by inspectors
• Self-employed, low risk businesses, will be exempt from health and safety law
• Businesses will be given clear practical examples of how to comply with the law
• All unnecessary Regulation will be revoked  
• A simpler accident reporting regime to be put in place
• Legislation will be risk based
• Regulations to be consolidated by industry sector
• The total number of Regulations with which business must comply will be reduced by 50%
